PHSC Black History Month Cinema Screening and Dinner for Soul Food Junkies

Where: Perry Health Sciences Campus, HS2 Lecture Hall

Grab a friend and come have dinner and a movie on us as we celebrate Black History Month. Award-winning filmmaker Byron Hurt will be here to facilitate a discussion after we watch his insightful and entertaining PBS documentary, Soul Food Junkies. Learn why the African American cuisine known as soul food may feel good to your soul but wreak havoc on your health.

Black History Trivia

Where: Southern Wake Campus, Building L (SSB) Lobby
Date: February 5 – 8
Time: various
What: Students will have the opportunity to participate by completing a trivia quiz. All students that participate will receive a SGA branded item as well as an entry to win one of three pieces of art.

African-American Music Workshop

Northern Wake Campus Building, B Student Lounge
Date: February 8
Time: 12:00 – 1:00p.m.
What: Students will learn about African- American music and its origins. The students will assist in helping create a new black history song.

African-American Historical Figures

Northern Wake Campus, Building B Student Lounge

Students will learn about black history through African- American artifacts.

From Africa to America to Your Plate!

Students will learn about African-American food and its origins.

Civil Rights Museum Trip

Where: Civil Rights Museum, Greensboro, NC
Date: February 23
Time: 9:00a.m. – 4:00p.m. (bus will leave from Southern Wake Campus)
What:  Students will travel to Greensboro, NC to the Civil Rights Museum. Students will pay $10.00 to participate. The fee includes bus transportation, admission to the museum, and a boxed lunch. Registration will be required for this trip – more details to come.
